What are the hours for White House Clinics?

When White House Clinics is closed, patients can speak with the provider on call by calling St. Joseph Berea Hospital at 986-3151. Ask that the provider on call for the clinic to return your call. Leave your name and phone number. If you have a true emergency, go directly to the nearest Emergency Room. If at Berea Hospital and hospitalization is required, the physician on call will be notified. Any needed follow-up care should be arranged with Student Health Services the following weekday.

What do I do if White House Clinics is closed?

Students who have paid the $50 health fee, whether full or part-time, are eligible for service. Faculty and Staff working twenty or more per week are eligible to come.
Student dependents ages 3-23 may come if the additional health fee (currently $52) has been paid each semester.
Faculty and Staff dependents ages 3-23 may be served if they are covered by their parent&#8217;s insurance or on a fee-for-service basis.

Who is eligible to come to White House Clinics?

For your convenience, we see patients by appointment. To schedule an appointment with one of the providers at White House Clinics, call (859) 985-3212. Time is allowed each day to see persons with emergencies. Emergency situations are handled as quickly as possible and sometimes referred to <a href="https://www.chisaintjosephhealth.org/chi-saint-joseph-health/hospitals-locations/saint-joseph-berea/services/emergency-care">Saint Joseph Berea Emergency Department</a>. If possible, please call ahead to inform the staff of any emergencies coming in. If you cannot keep an appointment, please call to cancel so others may be scheduled.

Do I need an appointment?

Students: There is no charge to students for office visits. (This is covered by the $50 per semester health fee). There will be a charge for immunizations, TB tests, medications, supplies,etc. These charges to students may be paid for at the time of service or charged to the student’s Banner account. If a student has primary insurance, we will bill that first. 
 
Faculty/Staff: A $20 office fee will be collected from all faculty, staff, and their dependents at the time of service. Insurance will be billed for the visit also. If there is no insurance, a ‘usual and customary’ fee-for-service will be charged.

How much does this cost?

Health Fee 
White House Clinics is available to all degree-seeking students by virtue of the health fee (currently $50 per semester, and $50 for summer) that is included in the term bill, and is charged to ALL STUDENTS irrespective of insurance status or if the student uses the clinic or not. It covers unlimited visits to White House Clinics, including counseling, strep screening, STD exams, pap smears, etc. Student dependents (spouse and children over 3 years of age) may also use these services for an additional $52 health fee per semester.
Student Health Insurance 
Student health and wellness is a high priority at Berea College. White House Clinics along with medical health insurance ensure that students may obtain preventive health care and necessary treatment for illness and injury both here and abroad.
All students attending Berea College are required to carry health insurance through the College currently through Arc Administrators. For those students who are covered by parental or individual plans, this mandatory College policy serves as secondary, “excess” coverage. The policy provides primary coverage for students with no insurance.
The insurance premium is part of the student expense budget and will be charged to the term bill. Financial Aid is applied to this cost, based on need as established by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Students’ dependents may be added to the College plan at an additional premium.
Policy benefits and exclusions are explained in a brochure sent to each student along with an insurance card. This card must be presented when seeking medical care. Students are responsible for submitting any information the insurance company requests. The College Health Service Office Manager may assist with this task.

What is the difference for students, between the health fee and the insurance charge each semester?

All medical records are confidential. White House Clinics abides by HIPPA (The Health Information Privacy and Protection Act) regulations. No one except White House Clinics staff has access to the charts, except in very limited cases- such as an after-hours emergency. No information is released to anyone on campus or elsewhere without the patient’s written authorization. Please let the office manager know if you have any concerns about this matter.

Will my information be kept confidential?

Calls will be returned as soon as possible. If you are calling for a prescription renewal, please specify the name of the medication and also the pharmacy you wish to use. Please allow a 24-hour turn around for prescriptions.

What do I do if I have to leave a phone message?

To better serve our patient’s we have implemented an automated telephone system to give them direct access without going through the receptionist.
